Jason Rohrer (born November 14, 1977 ) is a freelance programmer , game developer , writer and artist . Among other things, he is known as the developer of the anonymous swap exchange MUTE and for cracking the log of the online music store Apple iTunes . Rohrer currently (2011) lives in Las Cruces , New Mexico .

Jason Rohrer rejects the copyright . In his essay Free Distribution ( English for free distribution ) it calls for two alternative payment mechanisms: first, for the threshold pledge system , in which the author a work freely published as soon as he pre-specified amount of money from the interested parties will be paid together. On the other hand, for a system in which the author is continuously paid by his followers.

Rohrer himself acts in this way and tries to live only on donations. He documents his work in a logbook. He published his programming and other work under free licenses ( free software and free content ) or making them public domain (English public domain ) available.

North Country Notes

North Country Notes (NCN) is a regional money project in Potsdam, New York. After initially helping just a little, Jason Rohrer took over the entire project in October 2004 from those who started it.

In the winter of 2003, Jason Rohrer designed a new paper currency system, the Z dollar . However, he did not publish the idea until a year and a half later on May 24, 2005.

Rohrer developed a number of free computer games such as Cultivation, a simulation of a community of gardeners or Passage , which has won multiple awards and is shown in museums and exhibitions.

Family and personal life

Jason Rohrer promotes the simple life he leads with his family in order to strengthen the regional economy and reduce their ecological footprint .
