Jaume Torres i Grau (* 1879 in Barcelona , † 1945 in Barcelona) was a Catalan architect of Modernism and Noucentisme . He is a brother of the architect Raimon Torres i Grau , and uncle of the architect Josep Torres i Clavé .

Biographical data

Jaume Torres received his title as architect in 1903. Together with his brother Raimon as managing director, he formed the office of Societat Torres Germans ('Society of Torres Brothers'). Here he designed several buildings in the Modernisme style, such as the residential buildings in Carrer d'Aribau and Carrer de París (1905–1907), the Cases Ramos (1906), probably his most important Modernisme design, or the Casa Elena Castellano ( 1906-1907).

In 1914 the brothers took part in a competition for graduates from Barcelona and won 2nd place.

In the 1920s, Torres works were characterized by neo-baroque and classicist forms, corresponding to the style of the Noucentisme. The post and telegraph building built together with Josep Goday, prominently located on Passeig de Colom , as a “gateway” to Via Laietana (1926–1928), and the FOCSA building are of particular importance.
