Jean-Baptiste Hiriart-Urruty

Jean-Baptiste Hiriart-Urruty (born December 27, 1949 ) is a French mathematician who deals with analysis.

Hiriart-Urruty, who is of Basque origin, received his doctorate in 1977 under Alfred Auslender at the Blaise Pascal University in Clermont-Ferrand (Contributions à la programmation mathématique: cas déterministe et stochastique) and was professor at the Paul Sabatier University in 1981 until his retirement in 2015 Toulouse.

In addition to calculus of variations and optimization, he also deals with the history of mathematics and mathematics education.

He is in command of the Order of the Palmes académiques and a member of the Académie des Sciences Inscriptions et Belles-Lettres de Toulouse.
