Werner Engel (painter)

Werner Emil Engel (born August 22, 1880 in Thun ; † June 18, 1941 ibid) was a Swiss painter and graphic artist .

Life and works

Engel worked as a photographer until 1902. He then studied at the Kunstgewerbeschule in Bern and in 1905 at the Kunstgewerbeschule in Munich , where Maximilian Dasio taught him. In 1907 he moved to Robert Poetzelberger in Stuttgart . He also stayed in Italy, the south of France and Paris for study purposes . From 1905 he took part in exhibitions, including in Paris. Engels' works ended up in museums in Solothurn , Thun and Bern. He illustrated the work of the Bernese Oberland in sagas and history by Hermann Hartmann, Paul Beck's Thun guide and his own book Mein Thun .
