Robert Poetzelberger
Robert Poetzelberger (born June 9, 1856 in Vienna ; † August 2, 1930 on the island of Reichenau , Lake Constance ) was an Austrian painter , sculptor and art professor.
Life
Robert Poetzelberger, son of a bookseller, studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna from 1874 to 1878, followed by a trip to Italy in 1879. In 1880 he continued his studies with Ludwig Löfftz at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich . Already during his time in Munich he gave lessons in drawing and painting , including his stepbrother Leo Putz in 1885 . From 1892 he held a professorship at the Grand Ducal Badische Akademie Karlsruhe . In 1899, at the same time as Carlos Grethe and Leopold von Kalckreuth , he moved to the then Stuttgart Art School (successor to Ludwig Herterich ), where he retired in 1926.
Poetzelberger's painting was very academic and influenced by French impressionism . In addition to his genre and landscape painting , he also made lithographs .
His son Oswald Poetzelberger was also a painter.
Robert Poetzelberger is a member of the German Association of Artists and, in 1896, co-founder of the Karlsruhe Association of Artists . A Pietà he designed in 1904 for the family grave of the Heilbronn industrialist family Hagenbucher has been in the Heilbronn Cemetery since 1953 .
