Life

She was the daughter of the Heilbronn architect Heinrich Stroh and his wife Eugenie geb. Klaiber. After attending the Höhere Töchterschule in Heilbronn and studying art in Stuttgart with Robert Poetzelberger and as a master student of Heinrich Altherr , she first came to Jena as culture editor for Eugen Diederichs , before moving back to her hometown at the invitation of Theodor Heuss , where she worked under various Contributed pseudonymously to various newspapers. In 1926 she married the Balingen lawyer Alfred Daniel and moved to his hometown. In 1927 their son Ulrich was born. The couple became estranged, however, and Els moved with their son to another house in 1937. After the divorce in 1940, she was given custody of the son, who died in April 1945 in the last days of World War II at the age of 17.

After the war she devoted herself more to art. She had her first solo exhibition in Stuttgart in 1954. She was in France in 1955 with a scholarship from the South Württemberg-Hohenzollern regional council, and the regional council acquired several of her works in the following years. They made friends with Max Ackermann and Fritz von Graevenitz . In 1986, for reasons of age, she moved from her house in Balingen to a friend in the Balingen district of Frommern . In 1988 she created her last drawing, a self-portrait.
