Michaela Pfaffinger

Michaela Pfaffinger (born January 28, 1863 in Mattighofen ; † September 9, 1898 in Linz ) was an Austrian painter .

Origin and education

Michaela Pfaffinger was born as the daughter of the land registry keeper Michael Pfaffinger and his wife Katharina, geb. Wetz, born in Mattighofen. She was the younger sister of the lawyer, Montanist and Reichsrat member Dr. Rudolf Pfaffinger . In 1882 she went to Munich and received her training in painting from Professors Lossow, Smith and especially from Robert Poetzelberger .

Professional background

The painter lived in Linz from 1896, where she founded her own painting school on the premises of the Kunstverein, which she directed until her death. Her successor was Bertha von Tarnóczy (1846–1936), who had already played a key role in founding the women's academy of the Munich female artists' association founded in 1882 .

The artist's paintings can be found in the Linz City Museum Nordico and in the Upper Austrian State Museum .

Honor

  • 2002: Pfaffingerweg in the Kleinmünchen district of Linz is named after her. It connects the Spaunstraße with the Hausleitnerweg.
