Karl Däweritz

Karl Däweritz (born June 25, 1935 ) is a German photographer , mountaineer and author.

Life

Karl Däweritz, who lives in Pirna , became known primarily through his standard work, Climbing in Saxon Rock , which was published in two editions in 1979 and 1986 by Sportverlag Berlin . For this book he also provided all the photos himself. His private image archive includes numerous photos of mountaineering in the GDR and especially in Saxon Switzerland .

Together with Rolf Heinemann , he was appointed to the selection team of the Dresdner Wanderer- und Bergsteigerverein eV (DWBV, later DWBO ) and drove together with Rolf Heinemann from July 11th to August 3rd, 1959 in the Northern Albanian Alps under the direction of Harry Dürichen . There they made some first ascents .

At the time when four Saxon mountaineers lost their lives on the Eiger north face in the Bernese Oberland in Switzerland on July 21, 1967 , he was there as a photographer. On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of this disaster, a commemoration ceremony was held at Hohe Liebe, he gave the commemorative speech.
