Jean-Claude Kunz (* 1942 in Biel , Switzerland ) is a contemporary Swiss painter .

Life

After finishing school, Kunz first trained in an advertising agency. Enthusiastic about painting and drawing, he decided to get to know the world and to deepen his art studies after completing his apprenticeship and his first professional experience. His travels took him to England, Spain, France and Tunisia. In the way of life, in the light and in the colors, he collected the experiences that were decisive for his later work for his sculptures. His first writings and poems, which he illustrated and published himself, were written in Tunisia: Les Désirs and Poèmes et Peintures (1969). He later illustrated a number of writings and books by other authors.

Back in Switzerland, Kunz studied at the École des Arts décoratifs in Geneva a. a. at Jean Roll . To deepen these art studies, he worked with the painter Albert Chavaz in his studio in Savièse and then took courses with Yves Brayer at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière , Paris.

Services

In 1967 he opened his first own exhibition in Grenoble. Exhibitions at the “Salón d'Automne”, Lyon, followed regularly from 1969–1976. In 1973 Kunz represented Switzerland with his work at the Fondation Plateau d'Assy in France. After frequent visits and exhibitions, he settled entirely in Provence. The radiance of the Alpilles awakened in him the full range of his skills and his passion for light and color. In the following 25 years, an extensive picture work in landscape painting was created. Kunz has a close friendship with the Biel painters G. Item and M. Richterich . Joint and own exhibitions in Aix-en-Provences, Nîmes and Saint-Rémy-de Provence opened up new contacts and visions for him, and he expanded his work to include lithography and engraving in the Seguret art studio in the Lubéron. In 1979 he exhibited at the Werd pavilion in Zurich, in 1984, 1989 and 1995 at joint exhibitions of Biel painters in Provence, Evilard, and in 1992 at the Kunsthaus Grenchen on the occasion of the publication of a “monograph” on the artist.

In 1990, the reorientation to Switzerland began. The painterly structure of his work takes on a different meaning, which he calls "Réalisme Imaginaire". An extensive work of colorful still lifes develops. In the constant search for further expressions of his changing painterly sensibilities, Kunz constantly finds new sources for his work. 2010–2012 created sculptures and collages from driftwood. Today the artist lives in Switzerland.
