Jean-Claude Mathis (born August 15, 1939 in Bouzonville ) is a French politician . He has been a member of the National Assembly since 2002 .

Mathis first worked as an entrepreneur. At the local level, he was elected mayor of Les Riceys and also moved to the General Council of the Aube department . In the parliamentary elections in 2002 he moved into the National Assembly for the second constituency of the Aube department and joined the UMP there. He was re-elected in 2007 and 2012. At the end of November 2012, Mathis was one of around 70 MEPs who, with their leader François Fillon, split off from the UMP group in parliament and founded their own group under the name R-UMP.
