Jean-Jacques Langendorf (* 1938 in Gaillard , France ) is a Swiss historian and author. Military history is one of his specialties. He is also co-founder and co-owner of the Karolinger Verlag in Vienna .

Life

His father Ernst Langendorf was a social democratic journalist who migrated to France and Spain in 1933. His son, born in 1938, initially stayed with his mother in Switzerland, where he was raised by Ernest Ansermet . After the end of the war, he followed his father, who was now a US officer, to Munich and Starnberg.

Jean-Jacques Langendorf first studied archeology. In 1959, as a member of an anarchist group, he carried out a bomb attack on the Spanish UN embassy in Geneva.

After a year in prison, Langendorf went to the Arab world to create photo documentation about crusader castles. After several years as a philosophy lecturer in Tunisia, he lived and worked in Cyprus for a longer period of time.

Today he is head of the Institut de stratégie comparée in Paris.

According to Hannes Hintermeier, Langendorf, like his partner Weiß, corresponds to the "alternative to the ascetic intellectual".

Awards

In 2001 Langendorf received the Prix Michel-Dentan for his book La nuit tombe, Dieu regarde .
