Jean-Philippe Delpech (born September 1, 1967 in Toulouse ) is a former French football player and later coach .

Player career

Delpech began his career at FC Toulouse , where he was in the squad of the first division team from 1985 and initially ran up as a striker before he was brought into midfield because of his lack of goal danger. Even if he did not go beyond occasional appearances in the first few years in the French top division, he made the leap into the French U-21 team and also made his debut in European competition at club level.

From the 1988/89 season he became a regular player and was one of the top performers for a few years until he was poached in 1993 by the financially troubled league rivals AS Saint-Étienne . There he lost his place in the first eleven after a year and had to accept relegation to the second division in 1996, but remained loyal to the club. In 1997 he moved to the also second-rate AS Beauvais , for which he continued to play in the third division after relegation in 1999; with the third division championship in 2000 he won the only title of his career, even if he decided to end his professional career in the same year at the age of 32 after 226 first division games with nine goals and further appearances in the second and third division.

Coaching career

In addition to his career as an actor, he continued to work as an amateur trainer and commentator on football. In 2012 he took over the coaching position at the Algerian second division club SA Mohammadia .
