Jean Vodaine

Jean Vodaine (born July 6, 1921 in Čiginj as Vladimir Kavčič , † August 8, 2006 in Pont-à-Mousson ) was a Slovenian-French poet , painter and printer .

In the second half of the 19th century, many people began to emigrate from the Slovenian countries. Some moved to France, most of them to Lorraine, where they continued to work in clubs. There were also writers among the emigrants. The versatile artist Jean Vodaine emerges, who founded the international literary magazine Dire in a village in Lorraine, which was known for its splendid typographic design. In 1945 he published his first collection of poems "Rose et Noir" under the name of Jean Vodaine. He was a painter and poet and is also important as a translator of Slovenian poetry. Together with the painter Veno Pilon (1896–1970), he published a short anthology of translations of Slovenian poetry, but the idea of a large anthology did not materialize. Vodaine has written more than ten collections of poems, stylistically very different, and has also written poems about Lorraine.
