One shilling every second

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A schilling every second was a successful Austrian TV show with Lou van Burg .

The show was developed by Lou van Burg and Jean-Paul Blondeau and produced by Österreichischer Rundfunk . It ran from 1959 to 1961. The accompanying band was directed by Johannes Fehring . In Austria, the show was a success, so that it was also taken over six months later by ARD , which had previously offered the idea but was rejected by it. It was first broadcast in Germany on June 20, 1959.

The idea

For every second that a candidate performed a task, he received one shilling . The tasks seemed very simple at the beginning. The show became exciting because unexpected things happened during the task, for example the candidate had to sing a song under one of ten windows, and later water was poured out of the windows.
