Jeeyoung Kim

Jeeyoung Kim (* 1968 ) is a South Korean composer.

Life

Kim studied at Yonsei University in Seoul , received a master's degree from Indiana University (with John Corigliano and Roberto Sierra ) and graduated from Yale University in 2001 as a Doctor of Musical Arts . For 2001–2002 she received a Bunting Fellowship from Harvard University . In the following two years she was composer in residence of the vocal ensemble Chanticleer .

She received numerous composition commissions from American, European and Asian orchestras and chamber ensembles and received a. a. Awards from the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA), the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP), the International Alliance for Women in Music (IAWM) and the National Association of Composers, USA (NACUSA).

She composed the pieces Tryst and Ancient Bell for Yo-Yo Mas Silk Road Ensemble . The latter premiered at Carnegie Hall in 2006 . On the 120th anniversary of diplomatic relations between France and Korea , the world premiere of her trio Tripitaka Koreana for daegeum (Korean bamboo flute), violin and cello took place in Seoul .
