Ekaterina Novitskaya
Jekaterina Georgievna Novitskaja ( Russian Екатерина Георгиевна Новицкая , English transliteration Ekaterina Georgievna Novitskaya , scientific transliteration Ekaterina Georgievna Novickaja , * 1952 in Moscow ) is a Russian-Belgian classical pianist. At the age of 16 she won the Concours Musical Reine Elisabeth in Brussels in 1968 . After a concert in Amsterdam on February 17, 1978 Novitskaya traveled to Belgium and never returned to Russia. Since her 1968 concert competition in Brussels, she had built a close emotional bond with the Belgian pianist François-Emmanuel Hervy , whom she later married. She has five children with him. Novitskaya obtained Belgian citizenship.
Novitskaya studied at the Moscow Conservatory with Lev Oborin . In 1968 she won the Concours Musical Reine Elisabeth as the youngest participant to date. In 1985 she made her debut in New York. In 1996, Rostropovich organized a tour of Russia for Ekaterina Novizkaja.
