Jellyvision is a company founded in 1989 by Harry Gottlieb based in Chicago ( Illinois , USA ), which specializes in simulated conversations with a computer for advertising, entertainment or analysis purposes that are as real as possible. In Germany she is particularly known for the You Don't Know Jack quiz computer game series.

history

Jellyvision was founded in 1989 under the name Learn Television , at that time with the aim of releasing children's films . As the computer became increasingly popular as an entertainment medium, Learn Television turned to it and developed That's A Fact, Jack®! , an interactive game show aimed at elementary and middle school students that featured quizzes on numerous books.

While developing That's A Fact, Jack®! Learn Television partnered with Berkeley Systems and began developing You Don't Know Jack . At the same time, the company name was changed to Burnt Jellyvision to reflect the change in target audience . However, the company quickly decided to simply call itself Jellyvision .

This was mainly followed by new titles for the You Don't Know Jack series. After the release of the sixth US part, The Lost Gold , Jellyvision began to develop interactive conversations (using Flash ) as commissioned work for marketing purposes. The user is usually guided through a series of inputs by text overlay and an off-voice, which should help him, for example (in a commissioned work for Microsoft ) when choosing a new laptop . The user's input is saved and processed into a list of suitable laptops at the end.

division

From 2006 to 2008 Jellyvision split into two companies: Jellyvision Games , today responsible for the development of You Don't Know Jack , and Jellyvision Lab , today responsible for the development of new interactive conversations. Both companies share the same headquarters in Chicago and some of the employees of the Jellyvision Lab also work on You Don't Know Jack .

In June 2013 the subsidiary Jellyvision Games split off by name from its parent company and renamed itself Jackbox Games . The headquarters are still in Chicago, and all projects started under the previous name will continue.
