Jena Rosarium

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Jena Rosarium was a planting of certain types of roses, sorted by origin, for targeted new breeding, which the pediatrician and recognized rose breeder Jussuf Ibrahim initially planted in his private garden at Kasernenstrasse 10 (today Rathenaustrasse) in Jena-West in the 1930s. With the award of the title of honorary citizen of the city of Jena and the honorary doctorate of the pedagogical faculty on the occasion of his 70th birthday in 1947, Ibrahim donated the rosarium to the botanical garden of the Friedrich Schiller University Jena and named it after his place of work. In the 1960s this botanical collection was apparently closed. In addition to Ibrahim's rosarium, there was another one on Adolf-Hitler-Platz (later Karl-Marx-Platz, Petersen-Platz, today Jenaplan) after it was rebuilt.
