Jena-West is a district of Jena .

geography

Jena-West is 3.39 km² and borders in the southwest on the Jena-Zentrum district , in the northwest on Jena-Nord , in the north on Closewitz and Cospeda , in the west on Münchenroda / Remderoda and in the south on Jena-Süd . The Bach Leutra flows through Jena-West, which rises in the Mühltal and flows into the Saale in Paradise .

history

A prehistoric, fortified hilltop settlement was located on the foothills of the Baierberg protruding into the Mühltal above the Luther pulpit , because a section wall with stone tools and pottery shards was found. The river Leutra had deposited a terrace shortly before its confluence with the Saale . It was suitable for a river crossing. A ford was laid there from east to west. This is probably why there was a Carolingian royal estate in Jena with a manor house that could not be classified in a specific area. It is believed that he stood near the Johanniskirche . Older components from the 12th century were found there. It could also have been the place of the Nydeck house or the Kollegienhof . In 1145 they were called the Knights of Jena.
