Ilmnitz is a district of the independent city of Jena in Thuringia .

Ilmnitz is located southeast of the city center of Jena near the heights of the Lobdeburg ruins . The provincial road 1075 leads through the district. In the valley, to the south, runs the federal highway 4 . A little further south you reach Stadtroda . The core mountain heights to the north behind the village merge into the Wöllmisse to the east . The Schöngleina airfield is located on the plateau . The district of Ilmnitz is heavily cropped and partly wooded. The floors are made of red sandstone and shell limestone in the higher areas .
history
The village was first mentioned in a document in the period 1348-1349. The Osterhausen family was once wealthy in the rural village . The oldest tradition from court owners comes from the period 1421–1425.
After the political change , residential and commercial areas for the city of Jena developed in the small farming village. On July 1, 1994 Drackendorf was incorporated into Jena with Ilmnitz. On October 1, 2010, 409 citizens lived in the Ilmnitz district.
