Jena-Zentrum is a district of the city of Jena . It contains the infrastructural and historical core of the city as well as numerous striking buildings. 7,738 people live in the center of Jena.

Jena-Zentrum is 1.21 km² and borders in the south on the Jena-Süd district , in the west on Jena-West , in the north on Jena-Nord . In the northeast, the center is bounded by the Saale to the Wenigenjena district , in the southeast by the core mountains.

history

In the area of ​​the old town of Jena near Johannisstrasse and Saalstrasse there were several fortified mansions in the Middle Ages . The castle cellar and building remains have been preserved at the Kreuz and Weigelstrasse . It is assumed that before the city wall was built, traffic through the city to the Saale was monitored and supported. The medieval self-fortification Nydeck was a residential tower directly on the cross or castle cellar . The foundation and the first upper parts were from the 12th century. The upper part was from the 13th and 14th centuries. The residential tower came to light after the bombing raid on Jena. However, it was demolished after the war.
