Jena-Nord is a district and a district of the same name within this district (formerly the statistical district ) of the independent city of Jena in Thuringia , the second largest in terms of inhabitants. In the following illustration, Jena-Nord is generally understood to mean the entire district; special reference is made to statements that only concern the city district.
geography
Jena-Nord is a multifaceted district in terms of topography, land use and development, which for the most part only emerged in the 20th century. It is 4.34 km² and borders in the south on the district Jena-Zentrum , in the east with the Saale on Wenigenjena and Kunitz / Laasan , in the north on Löbstedt and Zwatzen , in the west on Closewitz and in the south-west on Jena-West . The federal highways 7 and 88 run through Jena-Nord .
Buildings and facilities
Buildings that shape the cityscape in Jena-Nord are the Nollendorfer Hof at the entrance to the district from the city center as well as five ten-story high-rises arranged in a row on Closewitzer Strasse, as well as the individual skyscrapers on Emil-Höllein-Platz and Schützenhofstrasse. The Neue Schützenhaus (Closewitzer Straße 1a), which was once visible from afar, is now almost covered by forest. Other important buildings are the north school and the Jena cultural station on the border of the district , the former reception building of the hall station and a center for socio-cultural and non-profit activities as well as free cultural work . The north cemetery is located in the district as Jena's main cemetery.

The Saalbahn , where the Saalbahnhof , the former Jena main train station, is located , runs through Jena-Nord . In addition, the tram lines 1 and 4, the city buses 15, 41 and 43 as well as intercity buses run through the district.
Administrative history
Jena-North as a statistical unit was created in accordance with a city council resolution of May 6, 1992. This resolution stipulated that Jena should be divided into statistical districts (later called city districts ) along the municipal boundaries ; the actual district Jena (within the boundaries of 1908) was again subdivided into the districts Jena-Zentrum, -Süd, -West and -Nord. In 2006 from the previous district Jena-Nord and the hitherto was Löbstedt belonging district Nord II formed the district of Jena-Nord in its present borders.
On May 7, 2006, a local council and mayor (later called local council and local mayor) were elected for the first time. The district mayor from 2006 to 2016 was Siegfried Ferge († April 20, 2018). Since June 5, 2016, Dr. Christoph Vietze mayor of the district. The district council of Jena-Nord has 10 seats.
