history

Memorial stone for those who fell in the world wars

A first settlement was probably built in the time of the Frankish Empire . This is indicated by the suffix “dorf”. The place name means something like single yard of a "crepe". Krippendorf was first mentioned in 1181 in a document in which Emperor Friedrich I confirmed a donation. Crib village is mentioned among the goods. The oldest tradition from court owners comes from the period 1421–1425. The place belonged to the Ernestine office of Dornburg , which was founded in the 14th century and which, due to several divisions, belonged to various Ernestine duchies .

During the Fourth Coalition War , the decisive battle between Napoleon's troops and the Prussian army under the leadership of Prince von Hohenlohe-Ingelfingen took place in the midday of October 13, 1806 , and went down in history as the Battle of Jena and Auerstedt . All surrounding places were damaged and looted. To commemorate this event, numerous memorial stones were set up at the former locations. From 1815 the place was part of the Grand Duchy of Saxony-Weimar-Eisenach , which in 1850 incorporated it into the Weimar II administrative district ( Apolda administrative district ).

In 1880 a large fire raged in Krippendorf. Numerous courtyards, the church and the school were damaged or destroyed. As a result, the Krippendorf volunteer fire brigade was founded in 1881 . In 1912 the place was electrified and a central water supply network was completed. In World War II, nine people from Krippendorf lost their lives, many evacuees had in accommodated. The first LPG was founded in 1958.

Since 1969, Krippendorf and Vierzehnheiligen formed their own community, which belonged to the district of Jena, until both places were incorporated into Jena through the Thuringian district reform in 1994 . Krippendorf took legal action against this incorporation before the Thuringian Constitutional Court and was right with the judgment of December 18, 1996. Nevertheless, Krippendorf should remain part of the city of Jena until the Thuringian state parliament decides again as a legislator. In 1997 it was decided by law that Krippendorf was assigned to the city of Jena.

Culture and sights

church

church

The Krippendorfer Church, which is originally a Romanesque building, consists of the nave, to which a rectangular choir tower and a choir adjoin. The upper part of the tower is octagonal and has a tail dome with a lantern . In the Gothic period the choir was redesigned, a side apse from the Romanesque choir was preserved at the eastern end of the nave. The tracery of the choir windows is worked in clover leaf arches and a quatrefoil. The current internal and external shape of the church is the result of renovations in the 18th and 19th centuries. Inside there are galleries, an organ from 1880 and an alabaster baptismal font with the year 1630. On the remains of one of the groin vaults in the choir tower, parts of a tendril painting that was carried out around 1500 can still be seen. A renovation took place from 1989 to 1995. The color scheme and painting were partly restored in a medieval and baroque style, partly as an analogue version.

Post mill

The rebuilt post mill

North of Krippendorf, on the way to Hermstedt, there is a historic post windmill , which was destroyed by hurricane " Kyrill " in spring 2007 and rebuilt from 2009 to 2010.

The mill was built by four municipalities between 1738 and 1742. In 1860 the building was badly damaged by fire, so that it had to be rebuilt with spare parts from the Großbockedraer windmill. In 1928 the mill was added to the list of monuments . Operations ceased in 1976. The post mill was extensively restored since 1977 until it collapsed due to the storm.

Europaweg

Europaweg

North of Krippendorf, between Vierzehnheiligen and the way to the post mill, is the Europaweg. Cherry trees were planted on this dirt road between 2003 and 2006, donated by people or institutions. Chalkboards with quotations were placed next to them. The aim of the Europaweg is to set an example for a peaceful Europe.
