Jennie McCormick

Jennie Margaret McCormick (* as Jennie Brown in Wanganui in 1963 ) is a New Zealand amateur astronomer and asteroid explorer.

Life

Jennie McCormick grew up in Wanganui and attended Whanganui Girl's College there . Her family moved to Auckland when she was 15 years old. She lives in Manukau City .

astronomy

Since 2002 she has been the sole owner of Farm Cove Observatories , an observatory in Pakuranga , a suburb of Auckland. The observatory has the IAU code E85 and is equipped with a 25 cm Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope . Construction began in 1999 and was opened on February 14, 2000.

As an astronomer, she has discovered 20 exoplanets since 2015 . On September 16, 2009, she discovered the asteroid of the main inner belt 2009 SA 1 at the Farm Cove Observatory , which was named (386622) New Zealand on May 21, 2016 .

Jannie McCormick has been an appointed member of the Auckland Astronomical Society since 2016 and a member of the Royal Astronomical Society of New Zealand (RASNZ) since the 1990s. She was the New Zealand coordinator for the 100 Hours of Astronomy project for the 2009 International Year of Astronomy . She has been a member of Astronomers Without Borders since 2011.
