Jennifer Griffith

Jennifer Griffith is an American composer and music teacher.

Griffith performed as a jazz pianist and singer in her youth before turning to Western European classical music. She earned her bachelor's degree in piano performance and studied composition at Smith College . This was followed by a doctoral degree with David Del Tredici and Tania León at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York . She has been teaching at Hofstra University since 2010 .

In 2004 her chamber opera Dream President was premiered in concert as part of the VOX 2004 series of the New York City Opera , the world premiere of the completed stage version took place in 2008 under the direction of Christopher Alden in the Zipper Factory . Based on the libretto by Dominic Orlando , she composed the opera Beautiful Creatures , which will premiere in New York in 2011. She also composed chamber music works and songs.
