Jens-Uwe Hartmann

Jens-Uwe Hartmann (born January 8, 1953 ) is a German Indologist .

Life

He studied Indology, Tibetology and Sinology in Munich (1973–1977). After receiving his master's degree in Munich (1977), his doctorate in Munich (1984) and his habilitation in Göttingen (1992), he was Professor of Tibetology at the Humboldt University in Berlin (1995–1999) and Professor of Indology and Iranian Studies at Ludwig -Maximilians University of Munich (1999-2018).

His research and teaching focuses on Buddhist Sanskrit manuscripts from Central Asia and Afghanistan , canonical literature of Buddhism , classical art poetry, current developments in Buddhism in Asia and the reception of Buddhism in the West.
