Jens Kestner (born December 25, 1971 in Northeim ) is a German politician ( AfD ), undertaker and member of the German Bundestag since 2017 .

Life

Kestner started his professional career in the trade and completed an apprenticeship as a central heating and ventilation engineer. In 1996 he started his voluntary service in the Bundeswehr in the career group of NCOs . After various missions abroad , his service with the German Armed Forces ended in 2004 as a sergeant major of the armored forces . Then he switched to the funeral business by founding his own funeral home .

politics

According to Kestner's own statements, he was briefly a member of the Christian Democratic Union in early 2000 . In 2014 he joined the newly founded party Alternative for Germany. He is a member of the Northeim district association of the AfD and has been a member of the board of directors there since then. Since the local elections in Lower Saxony in September 2016, Kestner has been a member of the city council and the Northeim district council.

Since spring 2017 he has been the first general secretary of AfD Lower Saxony . Until shortly before the general election it was not clear whether the Lower Saxony AfD would even be allowed to participate in the election. At the end of July, the election officer released the AfD list.

Jens Kestner was able to move into the nineteenth German Bundestag on September 24, 2017 via the state list for the federal election. His direct candidacy in the Goslar - Northeim - Osterode constituency was again unsuccessful. For the AfD parliamentary group in the Bundestag, he is a member of the Defense Committee and a deputy member of the Committee on Economic Cooperation and Development . He is also a deputy in the NATO Parliamentary Assembly .
