As an artistic work, Jens Kloppmann uses selected collective memories, which he comments in fretwork, mounted photographs, paintings, sculptures and actionist projects and transfers them to a further, abstract level. Often his works have a historical-political background. Examples are:

  • Bonn is not Weimar : Based on the winged phrase of the journalist Fritz René Allemann, who compared the Weimar Republic with the Bonn Republic, Kloppmann exchanged two entrance signs for the cities of Bonn and Weimar in order to question the content of the sentence.
  • In photographic exile - revenge for Trotsky : After Stalin had succeeded in banishing his competitor Leon Trotsky , he had his picture retouched from historical photographs. While Stalin had Trotsky's face retouched from historical photographs, Kloppmann mounted it into them.
  • Dictators with animals : In the iconography of rulers, the depicted is sometimes given an animal as a symbol of strength, cunning or virtue. The series shows fictional portraits of dictators of the 20th century, who are also depicted with animals and comment on the essence of those depicted.
