Jered

Jered ( Hebrew יֶרֶד, also: Jared , probably after the Arabic: "Rose") is a biblical figure in the Old Testament .

Jered was the eldest son of the Mahalalel and a descendant of the Set . According to Gen 5.15–20  EU , his father was 65 years old when he fathered him. He himself became a father for the first time at the age of 162. He named a son Enoch . Then he is said to have lived another 800 years and had many more sons and daughters. Jered died at the age of 962.

Jered is mentioned in the family tree of Jesus in Lk 3.37  EU .

He is not to be confused with the Irad mentioned in Gen 4,18  EU , the grandson of Cain . The latter is not the father but the son of another Enoch.
