Mahalalel ( Hebrew מַהֲלַלְאֵל"God is shining up" after need, or: "Recognition by God" according to Köhler) is a biblical figure in the Old Testament .

Mahalalel is the eldest son of Kenan and a descendant of the Set . According to Gen 5,12-17  EU , his father was 70 years old when he fathered him. He himself became a father for the first time at the age of 65. He named his eldest son Jered . Afterwards he is said to have lived another 830 years and to have had many more sons and daughters. Mahalalel thus died at the age of 895.

Mahalalel is mentioned in the family tree of Jesus in Lk 3.37  EU .

He is not to be confused with Mehujael , a descendant of Cain, mentioned in Gen 4.18  EU .
