Jerviswood

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jerviswood is a manor house in Scotland . It is on the outskirts of the town of Lanark in the South Lanarkshire Council Area . In 1971 the building was included in the Scottish List of Monuments in the highest category A.

description

The mansion dates from the 16th or 17th century. Historic Scotland limits the construction period to the mid 17th century. There was previously a tower house on the site that dates back to the 15th or 16th century. While the ruins of the defense tower were still standing in 1887, it was largely demolished around 1950 when a bathroom was added to Jerviswood.

Jerviswood is isolated around half a mile north of Lanark. The property is adjacent to the left bank of Mouse Water , which flows into the Clyde near the Cartland Bridge Hotel . It is considered a well-preserved example of a Scottish laird's home from the 17th century. The building is designed to be relatively simple. Inside, the fireplace and wood paneling are particularly noteworthy.
