history

The Jesuit residence in Füssen , founded in 1612, was relocated to Kaufbeuren in 1627. The building of the college was initiated from mid-1630. In 1648 the evangelically dominated city council withdrew the founding capital donated by the bishop of Augsburg, a year later the Jesuits were expelled by the council. The imperial rescript of Emperor Ferdinand III. of July 17, 1651 ordered the repatriation of the expelled Jesuits. The residence was returned on February 17, 1652. The residence was later expanded and structurally redesigned from 1702 onwards. The Jesuits supervised the college until the abolition of the Jesuit order in 1773.
