Jesuit residence in Herrieden

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Jesuit residence in Herrieden was a branch of the Jesuit order in Herrieden in the diocese of Eichstätt in the 17th century .

history

Soon after his election as Bishop of Eichstätt in 1612, Johann Christoph von Westerstetten called the Jesuits to his residence, who from 1614 lived in the Collegium Willibaldinum . From here the Jesuits set up various mission stations in the Hochstift. The Eichstatt Jesuit fathers Melchior Wurm stayed in Herrieden from July 1617 and Georg Moser in 1617/18. In 1624, the Eichstatt Jesuit Fathers Georg Agricola and Johannes Grenz held missions lasting several days in Herrieden. From 1627 two Jesuits were permanently in Herrieden. In 1631, Father Michael Sybold (Siebold) can be traced, after his departure in May 1631, Father Sigismund Bachauer (Pachauer), who stayed until 1633; on April 2, 1633, the Swedes entered the city. According to Bundschuh, the last Jesuit priest in Herrieden was a Swabian named Thomas Konrad.

The Jesuit residence was not rebuilt after the Thirty Years War . Once again, however, in 1732, under the rector of the Collegium Willibaldinum, Father Franciscus Molitor, an unnamed Jesuit stayed on a mission in Herrieden.
