The Jetex engine is a rocket engine for model aircraft , which is mainly used in the free flight area. The engine was developed in 1947 and was available from 1953 at the Wilmot and Mansour Company in Southampton . Kits for the Jetex engines were also available from this company. In Germany, the micro-engines were sold by the Graupner company in the 1960s.

functionality

The Jetex engine consists of an aluminum casing in which the fuel is housed in the form of solid tablets. The engine has a burn time of up to 10 seconds, but only a relatively low static thrust. Vertical launches, as known from conventional rockets, are only possible with very light models. One could also very well solo the engines, i.e. H. without a model, let fly.

Jetex engines today

Replicas of the Jetex engines and some kits have been available again since the late 1990s. Thanks to modern micro-RC components, the classic kits now also offer the option of converting the former free-flight models to RC. In Germany, however, these engines have no BAM approval and may therefore neither be sold nor used.
