Jets to Brazil was an American band from New York City . The idea for the name came from drummer Chris Daly, who saw the lettering on a poster in a scene from the film Breakfast at Tiffany's .

history

Blake Schwarzenbach moved to New York after his old band Jawbreaker broke up . Together with Jeremy Chatelain (previously with Handsome ) and Chris Daly (previously with Texas Is the Reason ) he founded Jets to Brazil in 1997. In the following year, the first album was released with Orange Rhyming Dictionary . Extensive tours through America and Europe followed. In 2000 Brian Maryansky (previously with Van Pelt ) strengthened the band as the second guitarist and Schwarzenbach was able to devote himself to more keyboard and piano (also live), which resulted in a corresponding musical development. The follow-up album Four Cornered Night was musically more harmonious, relaxed and brought the band excellent reviews and good sales figures. In autumn 2002 the last album was released with Perfecting Loneliness . For unknown reasons, the band split up after a US tour in the summer of 2003.

Blake Schwarzenbach founded a new band called Thorns of Life in autumn 2008 . In August 2009 Blake Schwarzenbach announced via his Facebook account that he had launched a new band called Forgetters .

style

The music of Jets to Brazil can be described as idiosyncratic, guitar-oriented indie rock, which is strongly influenced by Blake Schwarzenbach's vocals and guitar melodies. Most of the 4–6 minute long songs are mostly calm to mid tempo.
