Jeux de l'Amitié

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Jeux de l'Amitié ( German  games of friendship ) were a sporting event that took place in West Africa in the early 1960s.

In 1960 the Jeux de la Communauté in Madagascar took place as a competition with France and its colonies as part of the Communauté française . After they had gained independence in 1960, the next editions were carried out under the new name and also included countries that had not been French colonies. The Jeux de l'Amitié in 1961 took place in Abidjan (Ivory Coast) and the 1963 Games in Dakar (Senegal). In 1963 2400 athletes took part.

The Dakar Games saw African women take part in an international sports competition for the first time.

The football competitions were won by the French amateur national team and Senegal.
