The Jewish Supernumerary Police (or Ghafir ) was a subdivision of the Notrim , founded in 1936 under the League of Nations Mandate for Palestine . The majority of the members for this police force were recruited from the Hagana . The task of the Ghafir was to ensure tranquility and the protection of villages, towns, railways and settlements against Arab attacks.

The Jewish Supernumerary Police was very soon used as a deck organization by the Hagana. In the course of time the troop strength of the Ghafirs was increased from 6,000 to 14,000 men.
