The Jewish Settlement Police (JSP) was a subdivision of the Notrim , founded in 1936 under the League of Nations Mandate for Palestine . The JSP was recruited from the Haganah and trained as an elite force . The members of the JSP, known as Nodedot , were trained in unconventional warfare by their commander Yitzchak Sadeh . This was characterized by its high mobility and surprising attacks. The JSP was very much feared by the Arabs. At the end of 1946 the JSP had around 16,000 police officers.

The JSP began working with British forces in 1936, under the command of Orde Charles Wingate , a British intelligence officer who was transferred to the Mandate Palestine in 1936. This formed the Special Night Squads , which took action against Arab rioters. A core task was also the protection of the pipelines of the Iraq Petroleum Company , which was sabotaged by Arab guerrilla units.

After World War II , as part of Notrim, the JSP became the centerpiece of the Israeli Military Police that was formed during the Israeli War of Independence .
