Jiří Balcárek (born April 29, 1973 in Zábřeh ) is a former Czech football player and current football coach .

Player career

Balcárek started playing football at Sokol Leština. From 1986 to 1988 he was loaned to TJ Zábřeh. The offensive player then moved to Sigma Olomouc . In early 1991 he was accepted into the professional squad and made his debut in the Czechoslovak first division that same season. In January 1992 he went to Union Cheb for a year and a half to do his military service there, and in April 1993 he returned to Olomouc . In the spring of 1995 he was loaned to the then second division LeRK Brno.

After another 95 first division games for Sigma, in which Balcárek scored 16 goals, he moved in the summer of 1999, initially on loan, to 1. FC Union Berlin in the regional league . With Union, the midfielder rose to the 2nd Bundesliga in 2001 and reached the DFB Cup final in the same year . Due to injury problems Balcárek ended his career after the 2003/04 season.

Coaching career

Balcárek's first coaching station was in the 2005/06 season of SK Lipová in the fourth Czech division. The following year he was assistant coach for Sigma Olomouc's B team. Since July 2007 he has been the head coach of the B team.
