Jiro Kawamura

Jirō Kawamura ( Japanese 川村 二郎 , Kawamura Jirō ; born January 28, 1928 , † February 7, 2008 ) was a Japanese translator, literary scholar and critic.

Kawamura studied German literature at the University of Tokyo and initially emerged as an essayist and translator of modern German works. Until his retirement he taught at the Tokyo Prefectural University . For his writings he was u. a. awarded the Yomiuri Literature Prize (1983 for Uchida Hyakken ron ) and the Itō-Sei Literature Prize (1992 for Aregori no orimono ).
