The Mount Jizu ( "Hühnerfußberg"; Chinese  雞足山  /  鸡足山 , Pinyin Mount Jizu ) is a mountain and a famous Buddhist site in the northwest of the circle Binchuan Autonomous District Dali of Bai in the north east of Erhai Lake in the southwest China province Yunnan .

The mountain range extends 7.5 km from north to south and 15 km from east to west. Its main peak, the Tianzhu Feng ( 天柱峰 ), is 3240  m high.

The name of the mountain comes from the fact that it has three foothills on one side and one on the other, and thus resembles a chicken foot.

Buddhist site

The mountains are an important meeting place for Chinese Buddhism and Tibetan Buddhism .

The mountains are the place where Kashyapa (Ch.Jiaye 迦叶 or Dajiaye 大 迦叶), a disciple of Shakyamuni , preached Buddhism and where he meditated at the Huashou Gate (Ch.Huashou men 华 首 门) (a place in the Mountains) is said to have sat in order to attain enlightenment .

Buddhist temples are: Zhusheng si (祝圣寺), Tongwa dian (铜 瓦 殿) (or Jinding si 金顶 寺), Jiulian si九莲 寺, Yujin an余 金 庵 and Lengyan ta楞严 塔.

The mountains were traveled and described by the Chinese geographer Xu Xiake (1586–1641).
