a molecule from the PDB shown in Jmol

Jmol is a computer program for the spatial representation of molecules .

It is under the GNU Lesser General Public License and is actively being developed. Since it was programmed in Java , it is largely platform-independent. A Java applet from Jmol is used to display molecules in the web browser , for example within the Protein Data Bank , but also on many other well-known sites. The applet has also been adapted for use in wikis , and integration into Wikipedia and other sister projects is planned. With Jmol only molecules etc. can be viewed.

The software offers various display options, such as rod, ball-and-stick and dome models, point clouds and Van der Waals surfaces. Much can be controlled with the mouse in Jmol , for example the molecules can be rotated around all spatial axes and changed in size. You can also measure atomic distances and angles. In addition, Jmol has its own script language. In Jmol, molecules can be displayed in such a way that they can be viewed with 3D glasses , and molecular data from a wide variety of sources can also be displayed. Results from X-ray structure analyzes are accepted as well as data from molecular libraries or output files from numerous quantum chemical programs.

Jmol is available in Catalan, Czech, Dutch, English, Estonian, French, German, Portuguese, Spanish and Turkish, although the languages can be switched within the program.
