João Miguel Coimbra Aurélio (born August 17, 1988 in Beja ) is a Portuguese football player . He has been playing for Nacional Funchal in the SuperLiga , the highest Portuguese division , since 2008 .

Career

Aurélio began his career in Despertar's youth team, from where he moved to Vitória Guimarães in 2005 . Once there, he stayed in the youth department for two years before moving to the first team of the lower class club Penalva in 2007. In 2008 he switched to the Portuguese first division club Nacional Funchal . The central midfielder made his debut in the top Portuguese division on August 31, 2008 against Naval 1º de Maio , when he came on for Nene in the 87th minute. The game ended 2-1. He scored his first first division goal on April 26, 2009 against Belenenses Lisbon , when he scored the 1-0 in a 2-1 away win. Nacional finished fourth in the league and qualified for the Europa League .

Aurélio made his debut at European club level on August 20, 2009 in qualifying for the Europa League in the game against the representative from Russia Zenit St. Petersburg . In the 4: 3 home win he scored a goal (to 2: 0) and received a yellow card. Nacional got out of the group stage, where they were eliminated from the competition. You finished seventh in the championship.

So far, Aurélio has played for Portugal's U-21s.
