Joachim Körkel (* 1954 ) is a German psychologist and addiction researcher who teaches as a professor at the Evangelical University of Nuremberg .

In addition to his teaching activities at the Evangelical University in Nuremberg, Körkel instructs doctors, psychologists and social workers on the subject of alcohol addiction , alcohol risk and alcohol cessation. In his writings he opposes the rigid abstinence orientation for alcohol addicts, which is represented by the vast majority of addiction experts. Körkel recommends the controversial concept of “ controlled drinking ” for a clientele of alcohol addicts he does not exactly define .
