Joan Elizabeth Turville-Petre
Joan Elizabeth Turville-Petre ( May 10, 1911 - March 9, 2006 ) was a British philologist.
Life
Joan Turville-Petre (née Blomfield) was the daughter of Sam Blomfield from Colchester, Essex. In 1930 she began her studies at Somerville College of Oxford University and maintained a lifelong connection to the college. She was a tutor and fellow from 1941 to 1946, lecturer in English from 1946 to 1965, and Honorary College Research Fellow from 1965 until her death in 2006.
On January 7, 1943, she married Gabriel Turville-Petre , a colleague from Oxford who was active in the same field. JRR Tolkien and his wife were among the guests. They had three sons.
