Joan Hanham, Baroness Hanham
Joan Brownlow Hanham, Baroness Hanham CBE (born September 23, 1939 ) is a member of the House of Lords for the Conservative Party .
Life
Since 2010 she has been Parliamentary Undersecretary of the Department for Communities and Local Government . She was council chairman of the Kensington and Chelsea London Borough Council from 1989 . Her successor in this office was Merrick Cockell from April 2000 .
In 1999 she was promoted to Life Peer as Baroness Hanham , of Kensington in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea . In the same year she also ran as a candidate for the election of Mayor of London , but lost to Steve Norris , who then lost to Ken Livingstone in the mayoral election.
Hanham is Chair of St. Mary's Hospital NHS Trust and the Westminster Primary Care Trust . She was named Freeman of the City of London in 1984 and was appointed Commander to the Order of the British Empire in 1997 .
