Jochanan ha-Sandelar
R. Jochanan ha-Sandelar (also: Hassandelar or Hassandlar = "the sandal maker ", but possibly also derived from his hometown Alexandria ) was a Jewish scholar of antiquity, is counted among the Tannaites of the third generation and worked in the second century AD.
He was a student of Rabbi Akiba and proud to have taken care of this intensive contact. When Rabbi Akiba was imprisoned in prison during the Hadrianic persecution of religions and people wanted his advice on a chaliza matter (marriage in law), Jochanan is said to have disguised himself as a peddler and shouted under Akiba's prison window: "Who wants to buy needles, who wants to buy hooks How about a chaliza that took place in private? " Akiba is said to have recognized the voice of his student and shouted the decision to him.
The number of halachoths inherited from Jochanan is small, and there is no knowledge of Aggadic about him.
