Joseph "Joe" Anderson OBE (born January 24, 1958 in Liverpool ) is a British Labor Party politician . He is the first directly elected mayor ( Mayor ) of Liverpool.

Political career

Anderson was first elected to Liverpool City Council in 1998. In 2003 he became leader of the Labor Group and in 2010 chairman of the city council after Labor won a majority. Anderson was first elected Mayor of Liverpool on May 3, 2012. He also won the next election in May 2016 with 52.6% of the vote. In his first election he got 57% of the vote.

In 2012, Anderson was named Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) by the British Queen at her official birthday party in June .
