Joe Ghartey

Joe Ghartey is a leading Ghanaian lawyer and politician . In the government of President John Agyekum Kufuor , Ghartey is the incumbent Minister of Justice and Attorney General's Department . He has held the ministerial post since his appointment in April 2006 as successor to Nii Ayikoi Otoo .

Education and career

Ghartey studied law and received his bachelor's degree in 1980 . He is also a lawyer in his office Ghartey, Ghartey & Co operates. In the constituency of Essikan / Ketan, he won a seat in the Ghanaian parliament in the last parliamentary elections in 2004.

As attorney general, he is a constitutional member of the Judical Council alongside the Chief Justice of Ghana . Ghartey is a member of the ruling New Patriotic Party , chaired by President Kufuor.

Ghartey belongs to the Sharma people from the western region . He is married to the lawyer and partner in his law firm Efua Ghartey (also: Afua Gartey) and has five children with her.
