Joel Baumann

Joel Baumann (born March 14, 1969 in Bogotá ) is the rector of the Kassel Art School and one of the directors of the creative collective tomato .

life and work

The German Joel Baumann grew z. T. abroad and studied acting and dramaturgy, as well as photography in Paris, before doing his BA in Contemporary Media Practice in 1997 and his MA in Hypermedia in 1998 at the University of Westminster in London. During his student days he became a member of the Antirom artist group . Joel Baumann has been a director of tomato ltd., London, since 1999. In 2003 he was appointed professor for new media in the visual communication course at the Kassel Art College. Since March 2013 he has been head of the Kasseler Kunstverein . On November 1, 2013, Joel Baumann took over the post of rector of the Kassel Art School.

The achievement of his work lies less in the visible surface than in the interaction and strategy of the digital media works he helped create. The Kunsthochschule Kassel describes its work as follows:

"In his work, he focuses on the interactive moment, the strategic possibilities in the use of digital media and the influence of new media on forms of society and communication."

His applied, commercial work (with tomato) in the areas of branding and advertising has been carried out for renowned international companies and institutions and has won numerous awards.
